With Stark State College's CDL Class A training, you’ll get tractor trailer training with 48’ length trailers. All trucks are outfitted with 10-speed non-synchronized manual transmissions and automatic 10 speed transmissions. You’ll also be prepared for hazardous (H endorsement) written exam during the program. A CDL permit is not required to start.

Participation in CDL121 Commercial Driver's License - Class A - Safe Operation and Control requires a valid Ohio driver’s license. Must be 18 years of age and show proof of legal presence in the United States. Must meet Department of Transportation (DOT) vision and physical requirements and pass the DOT drug screen.
Students must pass the Ohio CDL Class A Driver’s License examination to receive their Class A CDL. The examination is administered at the end of CDL122.

Program Learning Outcomes
This program is designed to prepare students to demonstrate the following learning outcomes:
- Graduates will demonstrate the ability to safely operate commercial vehicles in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, with a focus on OSHA standards related to transportation safety, such as preventing worksite hazards and ensuring the safety of themselves and others.
- Graduates will conduct comprehensive vehicle inspections and perform basic maintenance tasks while adhering to OSHA regulations. They will identify potential vehicle-related hazards and implement appropriate safety measures, ensuring both vehicle and workplace compliance with OSHA guidelines.
- Graduates will apply a thorough understanding of FMCSA regulations, Hours of Service, and OSHA requirements to manage risks associated with the transportation industry. They will maintain accurate documentation, such as electronic logs, hazard reports, and incident records, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance.
- Graduates will integrate OSHA training with industry-standard CDL practices to promote health and safety in all aspects of their work. They will demonstrate professional communication and hazard reporting skills, contributing to a safe and efficient work environment for themselves and others at worksites, delivery locations, and on the road.
