With Stark State College's CDL Class A training, you’ll get tractor trailer training with 48’ length trailers. All trucks are outfitted with 10-speed non-synchronized manual transmissions and automatic 10 speed transmissions. A CDL permit is not required to start. This option is not eligible for financial aid.

Participation in CDL121 Commercial Driver's License - Class A - Safe Operation and Control requires a valid Ohio driver’s license. Must be 18 years of age and show proof of legal presence in the United States. Must meet Department of Transportation (DOT) vision and physical requirements and pass the DOT drug screen.
Students must pass the Ohio CDL Class A Driver’s License examination to receive their Class A CDL. The examination is administered at the end of CDL122.

Program Learning Outcomes
This program is designed to prepare students to demonstrate the following learning outcomes:
- Graduates will demonstrate the ability to operate commercial vehicles in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, while prioritizing safety protocols, including defensive driving, hazard identification, and emergency maneuvers.
- Graduates will be able to conduct thorough pre-trip, on-route, and post-trip inspections of commercial vehicles, identifying mechanical issues, and performing basic maintenance to ensure vehicles are roadworthy and compliant with regulatory standards.
- Graduates will understand and apply transportation laws and regulations (such as Hours of Service, FMCSA guidelines, and weight limits), while maintaining accurate logs and required documentation, including electronic logging devices (ELDs) and bills of lading.
- Graduates will develop effective communication skills for interacting with dispatchers, customers, and regulatory authorities. They will also demonstrate professional conduct and time-management skills in the execution of their duties, ensuring timely deliveries and adherence to schedules.
